Everything BMS-NSW does serves our mission: promoting the art and science of medicine for the best interests of the community.
BMS-NSW grew from the journey of Bangladeshi doctors who migrated to Australia from the 1980s. Built on tradition, culture, brotherhood and professionalism, their early AMC success inspired a united medical community that continues to support doctors today.
Supporting new migrant Bangladeshi doctors has always been a core objective of the Society. From study circles and tutorials to guidance with registration and job pathways, BMS-NSW continues to help doctors begin their Australian medical careers.
BMS-NSW was formed with a strong desire to celebrate Bangladeshi culture and pass it on to the next generation. Through family gatherings, cultural programs and community events, the Society keeps heritage alive in a professional and meaningful way.
The future of BMS-NSW lies in uniting Bangladeshi doctors under one banner. The Society aims to strengthen professional connection, support the next generation of doctors and uphold Bangladeshi culture, dignity and tradition in Australia.

The history of the Bangladesh Medical Society (BMS) is a rich narrative of tradition, culture, brotherhood, professionalism and camaraderie.
Very few doctors migrated to Australia before the 1980s. Regular migration of doctors of Bangladeshi origin began from 1985, when a small pioneering group arrived and achieved remarkable success in the AMC examination.
By 1987, the early group of Bangladeshi doctors had achieved an inspiring published AMC success record.
In the late 1990s, doctors migrating from New Zealand helped ignite the aspiration to form a united medical association.
